Elisabeth Riera (postdoc, UMR ECOSEAS, UCA) presented her work at the first annual meeting of the GDR 2088 "BIOMIM", that took place at the Negresco hotel, between the 13 and 14 October 2020. She presented her work titled: "Toward a "biogeoinspiration" of the artificial reefs’ design", related to her Ph.D. work, under the supervision of Patrice Francour and Cédric Hubas.

GDR 2088 « BIOMIM » - Biomimicry and Bioinspiration was established by the Institute of Chemistry of CNRS in January 2020 to unite all French actors working in the field of Bioinspiration and Biomimicry. It brings together 92 research teams and laboratories with more than 700+ researchers and doctoral students, from all over France and with different scientific backgrounds and specializations to address important scientific and societal challenges through solutions inspired by nature.

Three field campaigns are underway in Sardinia Island (Italy), in three marine protected areas (MPAs): Tavolara, Asinara and Capo Carbonara. By collecting data on fish (diversity, abundance, size) and using a standardized visual census technique, the effects of the protection regimes (in the integral and in the partial reserve) at the 3 AMPs are assessed.
