Habitat destruction is at the very summit of the hierarchy of damages to the biodiversity. Marine coastal ecosystems are particularly threatened by human constructions. These ecosystems are essential for biological productivity and form nursery sites for many fish species. The MEDAM project aims at inventoring all reclamations from the sea (harbours, landfills, dykes, breakwaters, groynes, etc.), to assess their overall impact along the French coast.

All constructions are inserted in a GIS database and regularly updated, and compared to the natural coastline (historical survey prior to any reclamation).

The MEDAM 2018-2019 project consists of updating and improving the existing website www.medam.org, which gathers the data related to the artificialisation of the coast (maps and data tables).
