MMMPA aims to train the next generation of MPA scientists and managers, equipping them with a flexible set of scientific and management skills essential within a wide range of professional environments. In particular, researchers will mature the experience in a highly interdisciplinary network, leading in taxonomy, ecology, biology conservation, bio-cartography, and socio-economy.

Ecology and Conservation Science for Sustainable Seas

logos all ecoseas cnrs uns

The lab ECOSEAS is specialized in marine ecology and ecotoxicology. Most of the research work is carried out in the Mediterranean Sea and addresses both theoretical (ecosystem functioning, biology and ecology of species and communities; bioecological changes under the influence of global change) and applied issues (ecosystem-wide conservation and assessment; marine reserves; management of human activities in coastal areas; sustainable fishing; ecotoxicological bio-surveillance).

It is the EU AFRIMED project’s pleasure to invite you to participate to our Stakeholder meeting on May 10th, 2022.

SAVE THE DATE AND JOIN US!

The meeting will follow a hybrid format, being held in presence at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Naples, Italy, and online.

We will exchange experiences, establish a stakeholder network, and create a shared vision of requirements and challenges to Mediterranean macroalgal conservation and restoration.

Attendance is free, but registration is required for both online and in-person participation

(Registration form: https://forms.gle/tC1cC5UsjR9TRtiE6)

By filling out our questionnaire https://forms.gle/avoXyWR3mKBDoHPF8, you will have contributed to the restoration of our Mediterranean macroalgal forests.

Looking forward to seeing you in Naples!

Impact of noise pollution on Mediterranean sparid settlers

Eugenio Di Franco

The underwater marine environment is full of sounds which are used by marine animals for many essential activities. Since the industrial revolution, human activities at sea have been ever increasing, inducing the production of sounds underwater having multiple negative impacts of MNP ranging from mild behavioral or physiological changes up to internal or external injuries and even death of the individuals. However, there are still important knowledge gaps to fill to better understand the impacts of MNP from single organisms up to entire ecosystems. /…/ more details

In the framework of the ECOMED project that is aimed at raising awareness about the preservation of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica “banquettes” on sandy shores along the mediteranean coast, Francesca Rossi (CNRS researcher, ECOSEAS laboratory) was interviewed in the 6/9 of France Bleu Azur on Thursday 13 January 2022, a program in which Francesca has presenting the Beach Care Project (a collaboration between France and Italy) and describing the objectives of an experimental approach to environmental education and sustainability in interaction with high and middle school students.
