MMMPA aims to train the next generation of MPA scientists and managers, equipping them with a flexible set of scientific and management skills essential within a wide range of professional environments. In particular, researchers will mature the experience in a highly interdisciplinary network, leading in taxonomy, ecology, biology conservation, bio-cartography, and socio-economy.

Ecology and Conservation Science for Sustainable Seas

The lab ECOSEAS is specialized in marine ecology and ecotoxicology. Most of the research work is carried out in the Mediterranean Sea and addresses both theoretical (ecosystem functioning, biology and ecology of species and communities; bioecological changes under the influence of global change) and applied issues (ecosystem-wide conservation and assessment; marine reserves; management of human activities in coastal areas; sustainable fishing; ecotoxicological bio-surveillance).

Animateurs : Lorraine Bottin, Simona Bussotti, Eugenio Di Franco, Paolo Guidetti, Margalida Monserrat, Alexis Pey, Francesca Rossi, Alexandre Schickele, Patricia Ventura.

On September 23 to 27th 2019, in the National Marine Park of Zakynthos (Greece) will take place a summer school “Design and implement monitoring activities to assess Marine Protected Areas ecological and fisheries effectiveness: improving MPA’s manager skills”, as part of the FishMPABlue 2 project.

The goal of the summer school is to increase MPAs’ staff’s skills on how to design and implement monitoring activities to assess Marine Protected Areas ecological and fisheries effectiveness. Specifically, participants will be trained on the use of methodologies and techniques of environmental (underwater visual census, baited underwater videos), economic (assessment of catches and their economic value) and social (questionnaires) monitoring aspects of small scale fisheries in MPAs.

The ECOSEAS laboratory will take part in this event as an expert on the methods used to monitor small scale fisheries.

Eugenio Di Franco (doctorant)
Benoit Derijard (CR CNRS)
Jean-Michel Cottalorda (IGE UNS)
Simona Bussotti (CH Contractuel UNS)
Jean De Vaugelas (Chercheur associé)
Patricia Ventura (Thalassa)
Alexis Pey (Thalassa)
