The ECOMERS laboratory (FRE3927, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis & CNRS) wishes to recruit an expert in conservation social science. This activity is linked to the ones developed in the framework of the FishMPAblue2 European project.

Overview:

The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (UNS) is an interdisciplinary university receiving every year more than 25,000 students. It comprises approximately 1600 academics and 1100 administrative staff. The institutional scopes of the UNS are research and education. UNS encompasses 44 research laboratories and is ranked in the top 3% universities worldwide (Shangai academic ranking).

The lab ECOMERS is specialized in fundamental and applied marine ecology. Most of the research work is carried out in the Mediterranean Sea and addresses both theoretical (ecosystem functioning, biology and ecology of species and communities; bioecological changes under the influence of climate change) and applied issues (ecosystem-wide conservation and assessment; marine protected areas; management of human activities in coastal areas; sustainable small scale fishing; ecotoxicological bio-surveillance).

Context of the project:

FishMPABlue2 project is the follow-up of the FishMPABlue project funded by Interreg MED Programme 2007-2013 (from now on: FishMPABlue 1).

FishMPABlue 1 carried out an analysis (based on literature review and questionnaires answer by MPA’s managers) on the management of small scale fishery (SSF) within and around a set of Mediterranean MPAs, and developed the so called “regional-based governance toolkit” of potential measures for SSF governance in and around MPAs (i.e. composed by multiple key-elements, also called “tools”, see FishMPABlue 1 outputs) enabling MPAs to reach successful management of SSF. More specifically FishMPABlue 1 highlighted that fish stocks are healthier, fishermen incomes are higher and the social acceptance of management practices is promoted (so overall a successful management of SSF is reached) if a set of elements is present in a MPA (e.g. high MPA enforcement, presence of a management plan, high fishermen engagement in MPA management, fishermen representative in the MPA board, and promotion of sustainable fishing).

The aims of FishMPABlue 2 projects are:

- to test the governance toolkit (i.e. by implementing these elements or increasing their level) through multiple Pilot Actions in selected MPAs

- to assess and quantify its effectiveness in achieving expected results in terms of MPA ecological effectiveness, benefits delivered to SSF and social acceptance of management measures by stakeholders.

Position summary:

Working closely with the project and laboratory team members, the role of the recruited scientist will involve (but it will be not limited to) the following:

- treatment of social data (mainly from questionnaires administered to MPA managers and small scale fishermen)

- collaboration in writing project reports and scientific papers

The activities will include a visit to Ecomers lab in 2019 (dates and duration will be agreed later), during which discuss the status of the work

Qualifications and experience required:

PhD in social science or related fields.

Minimum 4 years’ experience working in marine conservation and conservation social science.

Considerable publication track record (international scientific papers) in human dimension and conservation social science.

Duration of the contract and remuneration:

The contract will run for a duration of 8 months. The remuneration will be in the form of a lump sum of 21.000 euro (50% advance payment, 25 after 4 months and 25% on completion)

- collaboration in writing reports and scientific papers

Qualifications and experience required:

Master in marine ecology or related fields.

Previous experience working in marine conservation and compilation of ecological datasets.

Duration of the contract and remuneration:

The contract will run for a duration of 6 months. The remuneration will be in according to University salary indexes

Les tâches du manager de projet comprennent :

1) La gestion administrative et financière du projet FISHMPABLUE2 - programme MED :  

Le manager assure la gestion administrative et financière du projet sous la supervision de l’équipe scientifique et du directeur de l’unité conformément aux règles du programme et celles appliquées au sein de l’organisme :

- assure le suivi financier (respect des règles de gestion du programme, contrôle l’éligibilité des dépenses, respect des règles de passation de marchés publics, établit les remontées de dépenses, rédige les rapports financiers et physique avec l’équipe scientifique)

- Etablit en lien avec le service juridique les contrats de sous-traitance et avenants

- Garantit le suivi opérationnel du projet : est l’interface avec le chef de file, les partenaires, l’auditeur et le financeur, respecte le calendrier des livrables et s’assure de la bonne exécution des indicateurs, assiste aux réunions (déplacements en Europe) et le cas échéant les organise

- travaille en lien avec le partenaire du projet chargé de communication, communication vers le site internet du laboratoire, vers les partenaires institutionnels ou via d’autres supports

2) Le suivi du projet SAFENET- programme H2020 :

Il renseigne les feuilles de temps du personnel sur le logiciel MyProtisvalor, fait le lien avec le partenaire Protisvalor pour les remontées de dépenses et prépare les ordres de missions des agents.

3) Gestion administrative des dépenses liés au projet :

Les tâches comprennent également la gestion purement administrative des dépenses :

-Achat /traitement des factures : demande et réception de devis aux fournisseurs/prestataires de services en lien avec l’équipe scientifique, création des bons de commandes via le logiciel SIFAC, réception des factures et traitement de ces dernières avec l’agence comptable de l’Université de Nice.

-Préparation des ordres de missions et traitement des notes de frais

-Réservation des déplacements

Compétences et connaissances mises en œuvre :

-          Anglais, italien, écrit/parlé

-          Connaissance du programme MED et de ses règles de gestion

-          Connaissance sur la gestion de projets européens et des supports (Synergie CTE, Presage…)

-          Aisance rédactionnelle : documents internes, documents de communication, rapports d’activités, etc.

-        Bonne qualité relationnelle : intégration dans une équipe scientifique, relation avec les partenaires du projet, relations avec les services de l’Université

Durée du contrat et lieu de travail :

Contrat à durée déterminé à mi-temps (date de fin 31/12/2019) avec une période d’essai d’un mois

- extraction of data concerning small scale fisheries catches from photo-samples collected at landing. Landings from within and around 11 Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas will be analyzed, for an overall maximum number of 1000 landings.

- compilation of fisheries database that will include data about catches (i.e. size of each individual), plus information describing each fishing operation

- compilation of database of questionnaires administered to small scale fishermen. Questionnaires will range from 100 to 150

- Collaboration in writing report

Duration of the contract and remuneration:

The contract will run for a duration of 2 months. The remuneration will be provided in 2 installments (50% advance payment, 50% on completion)

The offers will be considered within a maximum of 10.500 euros (VAT excluded)

Qualifications and experience required:

- PhD in Environmental Sciences or related fields.

- Previous experience working in marine conservation

- Availability to work at the Ecomers Lab collaborating closely with the project members
